And You Thought You Knew Chicken?

So we say mixing with pop stars is not our thing, but every once-in-a-while a project comes around that one can absolutely not resist. Whether it be finger-licking good (oops, wrong chicken there hahaha), or it just "pops" out at you, that little voice inside your head says "run with it" (no Forrest required; though we do have a Farrell).

Super Junior talking to the crowd

One such opportunity in 2014 was the launch of KyoChon in Malaysia. Not only some tasty chicken (fortunately they paid in cash though), and the chance to launch a franchise, but the opportunity to work with one of Korea's leading K-Pop Groups, SUPER JUNIOR. Truth be told, I'd never heard of them, but the rest of the Orchan team, who are far more musically inspired, certainly had. The news of this broke in the office to ecstatic screams of excitement (not mentioning names Kristy and Christina), which certainly reaffirmed our decision to say yes.

Always good for a photo opportunity with the food!

Crowds thronged 1 Utama to get a glimpse of their idols, and to hopefully have a chance to be up close and personal with them. Lucky fans were given the chance for an autograph or a photo opportunity, although sadly the group were unable to perform. They did however talk to the crowd, and help in the launch of KyoChon.

And we are launched, officially. Open for business now

But enough about the singers and guests - I am here to eat!

Salad Series - for those craving leaves with their chicken

KyoChon’s arrival in Malaysia not only solidifies the popularity of Korean cuisine amongst discerning Malaysians, but specifically, tasty, good quality fried chicken – prepared differently – with a distinctive Korean flavour.
Jjimdak Steamed Chicken - who's up for lunch now?

Chicken is popularly enjoyed by many around the world, and every culture has its own unique interpretation of its flavour and how it is cooked. Malaysia undoubtedly ranks among other Asian countries for loving their chicken the most, evidently so in the abundance of dishes that feature the ingredient. Fried chicken, predominantly seen in mamak stalls and fast food joints, is praised for its crispy texture and similarly, loathed for its unhealthy image. With a large variety of flavour and iterations to be had, Malaysians might be spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing where to patronise.
KyoChon Honey Series - Delicimo!

As a pioneer and innovator in its field, KyoChon began double-frying their chicken in a scientific and calculated manner to ensure the finest result.  The first round cooks the flesh evenly to retain the moist juices whilst removing excess oil, where it is then deep fried again for the perfect crunch, and finally glazed with special sauces imported from Korea made in state-of-the-art factories.  The result is chicken that is as crispy on the outside as it is juicy and tender on the inside, while at the same time using far less oil in the process than conventional fried chicken.
KyoChon Sal Sal Series

The launch was an exciting event, as guests and media who attended were welcomed to sample and savour their freshly prepared fried chicken.  Present at the venue were KyoChon’s VIPs, including Chairman Kwon, President Hwang, and President Lee, who delivered speeches and answered questions pertaining to the brand.  Guests and media were treated to exclusive tours inside the kitchen, and given live demonstrations of the preparation and cooking method that puts KyoChon apart from its contemporaries. Even KyoChon's President got into it, by personally demonstrating the cooking method.
