Ford Models' Supermodel of the World Malaysia 2009 Officially Launched

Ford Models' Supermodel of the World is the largest and most prestigious international modeling competition. Established by Eileen Ford in 1980, Supermode of the World held its first event at the Sporting Club in Monaco. Since its conception, the annual competition has expanded massively throughout the globe including Malaysia, which took place in November 2009.

Hosted by well-known personality and presenter Daphne Iking, viewers have seen contestants strive to give their best. With the aid of her personality and humour, Daphne ensured that contestants felt comfortable as they battled on the runway. Daphne is a long time friend of Amber Chia; she has developed an established career in Malaysia hosting numerous types of programmes, from Personal Finance to light-hearted entertainment, both live and recorded. Daphne has also embarked on acting and producing.

In addition to Amber Chia, the show featured two resident judges who assisted her in evaluating and providing feedback. The judges were Gillian Hung and Azrul Kevin Abdullah. Azrul owns and manages his own photographic studio in Kuala Lumpur.His photographic interests are primarily in portraits, figure studies and heritage architecture. He has loaned his expertise as a consultant and speaker to various organisations and his work has appeared in numerous magazines, books and exhibitions, including Harper's Bazaar and MIFA. Gillian, fashion guru and pioneer of the Malaysian fashion industry, has over two decades of experince in the fashion industry.

The total value of prizes for the top 3 female and top 3 male winners of Malaysia combined to a total of more than RM 250,000. For the ladies, prizes included a chance to compete in the global Ford Supermodel of the World Competition in Brazil in January 2010, where the winner, first runner-up and second runner-up will a USD $250,000, USD $150,000 and USD $100,00 contract with Ford Models respectively. For the men, a host of other attractive prizes awaited in addition to cash.

The show aired online with 8 episodes starting 16 November 2009. Suffice to say, it certainly shaped up for an interesting competition.
