When PR Does Advertising

Image
The Naughty Duo - When PR Does Advertising So, you might ask, since we are a PR Agency, would we ever engage in advertising? Our job is to tell clients why a limited budget should be spent on PR initiatives as opposed to ads, but the truth of the matter is advertising and PR work hand in hand (with social media and other initiatives) to create an overall representation of a brand. Therefore, it is only logical, and beneficial, that sometimes it does happen, and we advertise; and we at Orchan have been known to create some pretty distinctive advertisements and occasionally advertise in publications that meet our business needs.   Following all things Orchan, there is a particular 'identity' that we follow - this has evolved through the years, and has stuck because it represents us so well - different, not afraid to challenge the norms, quirky, colourful, and embracing of change.   One campaign Orchan especially enjoyed was a series we did with Advertising+Marke...

Thought Leadership - Malaysian Media Landscape Learning for Uuniversity of Southern California Students

Image
Orchan Hosts a Group of University of Southern California Students during their Malaysian Business Study Tour Part of our responsibility to the business community is to ensure that we are available to help not only the current generation of business persons and practitioners, but also to be ready to train and mentor future generations. For it is the future generations that will take over our places as we get older (if we ever allow ourselves to retire), but it is also these generations that look up to us all in the industry today to see what we are doing, why and how we are doing it, and to learn from current best practice. In March last year, we were honoured to be invited by the Marshall School of Business (University of Southern California) to facilitate a session with their students on the PR industry landscape in Malaysia. This group of high-achievers, both undergraduate and graduate business students, were undertaking a practical immersion course in Singapore and Mala...

SCS Butter Reinvigorates Familiar Chinese New Year Classics To usher in the Year of the Ram this Chinese New Year, SCS has taken on the ambitious task of reinvigorating one of our familiar festival classics, the pineapple tart. Just a few weeks back, we conducted an event in Mid Valley whereby Media attended a hands-on baking demonstration with Chef Collin Lim, who stepped participants through the preparation and baking process. Personnel from LiTV, NTV7, Foodsion and The Malaysian Women's Weekly and other participants (even ourselves!) took to the tables to make their own pineapple tarts from scratch. SCS has partnered with The Cooking House to enliven the traditional pineapple tart with eight exciting new recipes that anyone can make at home. These new varietals include Pineapple Cream Cheese, Pecan Pineapple, Berrylicious Pineapple, Chocolate Brownie Pineapple, Caramel Pineapple, Creamy Mango and Pineapple White Chocola...

Humans of Orchan | Joenathan Jeremmy Jeffery

Image
Orchan's PR Executive - The other one Ola! My name is Joenathan Jeremmy Jeffery and I’m here to tell you a little bit about myself. I know it’s a long name (my mother came up with it) but you can call me Jeremmy, for short. Some may ask, why not Joe? Probably because there’s more than enough Joe’s around, and I don’t intend to be just another Joe that you used to know. Anyway, I bear the title of PR Executive for the cult that I am currently in; Orchan Consulting. I have dedicated my life to being the slave of the PR industry, after offering 28 steamed chickens at the altar of the Gods. Essentially, I enjoy the company of nice people and food. I take the pleasure of being occupied by unanimated objects (my smartphone). By day, I’m a PR practitioner; and by night, I see myself as an avid gamer. On weekends, I stay at home. Filming an Indonesian sinetron (soap opera) - I wish. My close friends (yes, I have friends) declared that I am selectively-social, even tho...
