Blast from the Past – Event: Amber Chia's Wedding

Amber Chia, Malaysia’s famous supermodel, actress and brand ambassador, who appeared in over three hundred (300) magazines, catwalk runways in six (6) continents, starred in seven (7) movies and authored two (2) books, got married. As one of the most famous celebrities in Malaysia, Amber managed to not only to keep the wedding a secret but also managed to keep her husband’s identity a secret, which made the wedding even more special. On the March 25, 2 010 , Amber wedded her Mr. Right, Adrian Wong. This day was chosen because it coincided with Wong’s birthday. The ceremony was held at the Diwangkara Holiday Villa Resort. Amber Chia was able to avoid the media circus around her wedding by relocating her wedding to Bali and invited only forty (40) close relatives and friends to attend the wedding. Chef Tommes in Foodsion Take one TV Chef, a “foodie” island, and the desire to bring something different to the table – viola – you have Irrawaddy Fine Foods, Penang’s little slice of New York. Long-time Orchan client, Chef Tommes of that Little Wine Bar and AFC’s Chalk & Cheese, is all about pushing the boundaries when it comes to cuisine. In media relations, one of the major PR strategies is to work with media figures such as reporters, producers and editors to get editorial coverage. Editors in particular are important because they are usually the ones calling the shots in the editorial department. The notion of working with editors can be daunting – after all we wouldn’t know which type of editors we would end up having to correspond with. Immerse are the wonderful people who designed the Orchan website. They do awesome work for their clients, and like to take it further too, through charity work. In January 2011, Immerse launched their first innovative charity project. Entering their seventh year of business, Immerse was at a point where they wanted to give something back to the community. Holding true to their belief of making the world a better place, Immerse created a concept that is simple and thoughtful. They launched an online portal to help raise funds. After visiting some charitable homes, the Immerse team choose to help less fortunate kids after seeing them live in only the most basic living conditions. They selected these Malaysian charitable homes to be benefactors of their effort – Sintamany Orphanage, Happiness Centre for Mentally Disabled Children and Persatuan Warga Tua & Kanak-Kanak. This exclusive dining experience was about drawing together the rich culture of cooking and eating in Malaysia and innovating with fun, distinctive approaches. This unique dining experience was enabled by "Cuisine Riot", a team of Malaysian-based TV Chef's, who not only took time to talk with and present to the crowd, but also displayed some of their art through  table-side  preparation. As you may have read previously, we were tasked with delivering Pineapple Tarts for SCS Butter to a selection of publication houses and well-known bloggers, to welcome the Chinese New Year, late last year. (In case you haven’t, you can read it here .) As with any Media Drops, we personally delivered it to their doorsteps. What’s the point of delivering by hand if you weren’t going to do it yourself, right? :) Following a positive feedback from the Media Drops during Chinese New Year, SCS Butter continued its endeavour during Hari Raya Aidilfitri by coming up with four different types of kuih semperit to be delivered to respective publications and bloggers. According to an article by Josh Halliday and Jessica Elgot, the sexual health clinic has accidentally sent out a newsletter, disclosing patient’s names and email addresses. This matter proves to be a serious case of data breach. From a Public Relations viewpoint, what can we learn from this circumstance? When a data breach happens, many factors could be the cause of it, including human mistakes. Back Into the Classroom – Professor Craig Resurfaces to Offer some HELP

The youth are the future of our industry. As such, it’s always a great experience to interact with upcoming graduates and share with them industry experience, but to also get their input in terms of how they think and react to a range of situations. As part of our commitment to the industry, and to helping the next generation (beyond offering internship opportunities), I recently gave a Guest Lecture at HELP University in Kuala Lumpur. Invited by the President of IPRMSA (HELP University), I enjoyed leading a two hour session discussing Crisis Management in the Digital Age.
