Chef Tommes in Foodsion |
Take one TV Chef, a “foodie” island, and the desire to bring something different to the table – viola – you have Irrawaddy Fine Foods, Penang’s little slice of New York.
Long-time Orchan client, Chef Tommes of that Little Wine Bar and AFC’s Chalk & Cheese, is all about pushing the boundaries when it comes to cuisine. In 2001, Tommes opened his second Penang restaurant – Irrawaddy Fine Foods (IFF). Seeking the finer things in life, juxtaposed with New York deli style – IFF is a casual place to go for great breakfasts, brunches, lunches, or simply relaxing a rainy afternoon away with some good coffee.

An extension of the work Orchan was already doing with Tommes and TLWB, we hosted Penang-based media and bloggers for reviews, as well as brining KL media to Penang to experience Tommes’ kitchen delights.
It’s always fun hosting reviews with Tommes – there’s always a surprise in store for you. Whether it be a mid-afternoon glass of bubbly, sharing a special recipe that reminds him of childhood, some really odd jokes (he has the weirdest), or the time he gave a journalist and myself a sausage making lesson, life certainly isn’t boring.

IFF’s cuisine is about simple, tasty, and accessible deli food. And boy, do they deliver. Hearty sandwiches, pasta’s, salads, along-side freshly baked quiche, pies, and cakes, all contribute to the IFF success. Determined to offer value-busting meals, the bistro has become a staple in Penang’s food landmarks.
Anyway, don’t take our word for it – let the photographs and selected coverage tempt your tastebuds!
