South East Asian Participants Welcomed into the International Fold   The International Steinway Festival is a renowned event which has been held in Germany every two years since 1987, discovering young talented pianists from Belgium, China, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain and Germany. Deserving finalists from these countries were given the opportunity to perform in Hamburg, where they got to interact with other like-minded pianists and explore their own creative musicality. For the first time since its inception, Malaysian youth pianists were invited to participate in one of the industry’s most prestigious events. To participate, entrants had to submit a video clip of themselves performing three pieces; which was then judged by three prominent musicians in Malaysia. The entries were coordinated via Bentley School of Music, with sponsorship by BMW Malaysia. The search took several months before its finale; participants were ensured adequate time to enter...

Thought Leadership: Communication Standards on Social Media for Business

Image
Connex 2 UR Custmer on Social Medias Or are you just Driving them Away with Your Spelling & Grammar Mistakes?   Oh yes, you’ve noticed the spelling and grammar mistakes in my headline! Put off already? Most likely. In fact, a recent study indicates that 59% of customers would not feel ‘at ease’ with your business simply because of your online linguistic faux pas – this means, out of all that effort you have taken to grow your online presence to represent your brand, 59% of your potential customers do not wish to engage with you, simply because you haven’t taken the trouble to proof-read your posting.   I find it funny, as I have had this conversation with clients and former clients for many years. Some say that it’s ok to be ‘street’ or ‘less vigilant’ with your language online, and make it less formal; I disagree. This is branding people, not a kids street-side lemonade stand. Every element of communication that comes from a business must be st...

Thought Leadership: The Importance of Internal Communication

Image
Over the weekend, a couple of friends and I were just hanging out over numerous glasses of ice lemon tea (all thanks to the hot and humid Malaysian weather) when a friend shared about how she felt the lack of, if any, internal communication in the company she’s working with. “I know there are some companies that issue newsletters and whatnot to keep their employees informed. I don’t expect my company to issue it all the time; but at least update us every once in a while about how the company is doing, especially when I give my 110%,” she said. “Sure, I can read and find out from newspaper and online portals for certain updates. But, there are things only the company can tell us, that we can understand, and isn’t for the general public.”  It  just so happened that I read the following article by Shel Holtz who wrote “No, Internal Communications is not Dead”. While the article highlights how internal communication is still a very strong component of some companies, he also ...
