You Can’t
Hide the Truth from Social Media
Craig J Selby - Live From Australia
So, I’m
currently down-under, in Australia, getting inspiration for some upcoming
projects. After fifteen years in Asia, and not leaving Asia during that time, I
felt a tad out of touch from TV.
Remote,
TV, comfy lounge chair, and electric fire. Perfect!
Saturday
Night Rove. Eh, maybe not so perfect!
Rove
McManus was an entertainer from before my Asia days. A regular on TV, with his
own weekend ”all-you-can-think-of-show”, Rove was a rather coveted entertainer.
All that stopped for him sadly when his wife passed away, and he became a bit of
a recluse coming to grips with the changes.
But ten
years later and he’s back – well, not for long. It was a flop! And a monumental
one at that.
However,
that’s not my concern. I’m more interested in how the TV network tried to
initially spin the flop online, especially through abridging social media comments.
Knowing
that initial ratings from the first episode were, let’s just say, short of
expectations, Australia’s Ten Network embarked on an ad campaign to push the
show even more – embedding social media feedback into the (supposed) hype.
But it
turns out – Ten weren’t quite honest. They’d taken words from posts … but not
necessarily all!
#Unethical you say? Yup.
You’ll
have to check out the full article to see what I mean (the 'news' won’t allow anyone
to copy / paste from their site) – hypocrisy not!
Now,
let’s sit back and see how they worm their way out of this little “episode”.
