Thought Leadership - Sharing Knowledge to Gain New Knowledge

Sharing Knowledge to Gain New Knowledge @ The Third Indonesian International Conference on Communication (Jakarta) Craig J Selby For me, as an academic, conferences were always the places to go to network, share ideas, and be recipients of new ideas. Now as a communications professional, I like to take the same approach – even with academic conferences. Any place or avenue that shares experience and insight – is simply a place to learn and develop as an industry player. In early December, Farrell and I had the chance to head to Jakarta – not for a holiday, but to present at the Third Indonesian International Conference on Communication at Universitas Indonesia, as well as hold meetings with various Institutions and Agency counterparts. Hearing about the conference some months ago, we thought it would be an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded professionals, plus share our experience in an area we are passionate about, issues and crisis management. Our conference p...

From the Net - The 10 Best Holiday Ads of 2015

Image
With Christmas drawing near, here is a list of the ten best holiday ads of 2015 by Hubspot . Check it out! Santa might just be the greatest salesperson of all time. But he couldn't do it without brands that use their expensive creative talents to create ads that evoke good cheer, the holiday spirit, and even some seasonal disgust -- all in the effort to increase the act of gift-buying. This year, some of the best ads came from the U.K., where the holiday advertising season is their own version of the Super Bowl, and a few others were more focused on making us laugh at the silliness of the season than inducing dreams of dancing sugar plums.  Check out some of our favorite festive ads of the year:  1) Harvey Nichols | Avoid #GiftFace Do you have to mentally prepare yourself when opening that present from a certain relative each year? Harvey Nichols wants you to avoid "gift face," and shows off just how painful the unwrapping of presen...

Thought Leadership: Three (3) Things Editors Look for in PR Pitches

Image
Source: www.vikipedia.com As Public Relations practitioners, we deal with editors most of the time. In media relations, one of the major PR strategies is to work with media figures such as reporters, producers and editors to get editorial coverage. Editors in particular are important because they are usually the ones calling the shots in the editorial department. The notion of working with editors can be daunting – after all we wouldn’t know which type of editors we would end up having to correspond with. There are various types of editor in the field – from the really friendly and approachable ones, to the notoriously difficult editors (admit it, they exist). Whenever we drop PR pitches to relevant editors, we would get to experience a range of responses from them, for good or for worse. Rejections are bound to happen, however the best way forward from the “failed” experience is to not take the rejections personally. No matter how amazing your pitches may be, they won’t alw...

Blast from the Past: “Light Up” for Charity by Immerse

Image
Immerse are the wonderful people who designed the Orchan website. They do awesome work for their clients, and like to take it further too, through charity work. In January 2011, Immerse launched their first innovative charity project. Entering their seventh year of business, Immerse was at a point where they wanted to give something back to the community. Holding true to their belief of making the world a better place, Immerse created a concept that is simple and thoughtful. They launched an online portal to help raise funds. After visiting some charitable homes, the Immerse team choose to help less fortunate kids after seeing them live in only the most basic living conditions. They selected these Malaysian charitable homes to be benefactors of their effort – Sintamany Orphanage, Happiness Centre for Mentally Disabled Children and Persatuan Warga Tua & Kanak-Kanak. The concept was simple – to empower people to send a New Year’s greeting, but with a twist. Contributors...
