On 7 September 2018, Sunway Group commemorated the start of construction works for its future Sunway Medical Centre Seberang Jaya in mainland Penang which is expected to be completed by Q4 2020.
The event commenced outside of the Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya
where the medical centre will take shape. Members of media were invited to the
construction site where they witnessed Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow
accompanied by members of Penang Executive Council as well as Sunway Group
founder and chairman, Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah officiating the groundbreaking
ceremony by pressing a large syringe in.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony, the distinguished
guests as well as members of media were invited into the Seri Cengal Ballroom
of the Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya for a presentation by Sunway Group and then a
speech by Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah AO in which he expressed Sunway’s commitment
in providing top-notch healthcare to the growing population of Seberang Perai
and Penang. He also stated that the future medical centre will contribute to
state revenues by drawing in medical tourism into the region.

Later, the event continued with a press conference with the
members of media where they asked a myriad of questions and was followed by a
delectable lunch spread in the Sri Cengal Ballroom.
