Client Close-Up: Chef Tommes

Image
Tommes and Harley   An eccentric individual with a unique personality, Chef Tommes is passionate about all things creative. Part of representing any business or personality is by looking at fun angles that media and readers may enjoy. With Chef Tommes, the owner and chef of That Little Wine Bar Penang, it was an enjoyable ride introducing him and his love for Harley Davidson to the media. In the kitchen, Chef Tommes is a perfectionist – ask his staff, they’ll testify. But he isn’t merely a perfectionist in the kitchen, it resonates through to his life outside kitchen as well.  In building his custom built Harley Davidson – a mechanical beauty he’s dreamed to have since he was a child – life imitates art and he demonstrates the importance of perfection. Humans of Orchan | Craig J Selby (Managing Director)

Image
Humans of Orchan – Craig J Selby We started Orchan because we wanted to leave a legacy, to do something different, and to reintroduce personalization into business. Big agencies and other organisations are often faceless and heartless, with the big boss turning up on two occasions – for the pitch, and to collect the cheque. But hang on, its these guys – the bosses – that are leaders in their field, and should lead by example every step along the way. Craig at the Prestige Magazine, Top 40 Under 40, Ten Year Celebration Party. The prop was mandatory! With Orchan, we will never grow to be bigger than our capabilities. Yes, we select our clients (carefully too), as we want to be 100% behind what they have to offer; but also so we can ensure a hands-on experience throughout the representation. That might upset our staff, as we are always breathing down their necks (they can’t sneak out to a meeting without us being there) – but ultimately, it means a faster, and more consid...

Behind the Scenes - Creating a Client Pitch

Image
Scrambling for Ideas   No point to sugar-coat it; creating a client pitch is no easy feat. Its not random ideas that fall into place (well, ok, sometimes it is); it is a lot of hard work; researching, thinking, brainstorming, deleting, researching again ... you know, the cycle continues, until finally; you have the semblance of something you believe that not only can you articulate to the client, but can also result in great publicity. All this to get the client hooked ... into your way of thinking ... to heighten their brand.   Whether it be a short project or a longer retainer; most clients expect a pitch. They want to see what you can come up with for them, and whether this will translate into real outcomes of value. They also need to see whether your ideas (the good, the bad, and the ugly) synergise with their thinking styles and the way they work. Its all about chemistry - chemistry of people, and chemistry of brands.     In a pitch, an ...

Behind the Scenes - A Word from the Interns - Our First Media Drop

Image
Edison & Ben Hit the Streets Late in November and December, we had the chance to go out and experience a media drop for the very first time. New into the business, we weren't sure exactly what this would entail, but perhaps just delivering a few boxes at reception for some journalists. OK, so we underestimated the work that was involved in this. We were tasked to deliver Pineapple Tarts for SCS Butter, to a selection of publication houses and well-known bloggers. Most of the time, we went with either Christina or Jeremmy - so we weren't allowed to get into trouble on our own. Before we started each journey, we usually planned ahead. We gave our recipients a call to confirm if they were available to receive the cookies. Upon confirmation, the location of the publication houses and bloggers are saved into Waze in order to avoid unnecessary traffic. We also then decide which location to go first and thereafter so that we arrive on time, and so that we are not da...
