Blast from the Past - Client Close-Up: Staedtler

Image
Having been in the market for over a century, Staedtler made Malaysia a home in 1964 – introducing the great tradition of Nuremberg pencil-makers, its decades of experience and significant head start in the research and development of innovative products with quality. As Staedtler remains true to its roots and continues to manufacture more than 80% of its products worldwide in Germany, it has established itself as a premium brand in Malaysia. When Staedtler engaged Orchan (they were one of our first retainers; woohoo!), they had just collaborated with Erra Fazira – a Malaysian beauty queen, actress, singer, TV host and film producer – to help her creative vision come to life, which is to establish her own art club. As such, we were tasked to launch the art club, on top of other on-ground activities including a showcase where children were shown how pencils were made from scratch in the past. Check out some of the coverage: Visi Kreatif Erra Fazira Jadi Kenyataan by Midi ...

From the Net - 5 Golden Lessons from 'Entourage'

Image
If you haven’t watched Entourage , don’t fret about it. Jonathan Long, in his article , has made it relatable nonetheless; and we’ve also included our own commentary. Here are five entrepreneurial lessons Jonathan Long listed which you can take away from Entourage , which we think are as much lessons for the field of Public Relations. 1. The people you surround yourself with contribute to your success. Vincent Chase was the star, but a lot of his success was due to the company he kept around him -- Johnny Drama, Turtle, Ari Gold and Eric Murphy all contributed to his success. They were there for him during the ups as well as the downs -- and always had his best interest in mind. You want to make sure that you surround yourself with like-minded people that won’t interfere with your goals. The company you keep should be there for you when times are tough in addition to being there to celebrate the victories. Orchan Commentary: In a boutique PR agency like ours where it’s...

Thought Leadership: PR Is Not Dead

Image
Like every other PR practitioners, we couldn’t help but to read PR-related articles (very cliché, we know). Of all that we read, one article by Craig Pearce - an industry commentator from Australia - caught our eyes. In his article, he discusses whether PR is dead or not. Today, the PR toolkit is still relevant - and forever will be. Every organisation still needs the skills PR practitioners have, therefore PR remains alive. It’s no secret that effective PR can help manage the reputation of an organisation by communicating and building good relationships with all organisation stakeholders. This ensures that the organisation operates at optimum level. Anyhow, we’ll let you get to that. Have a read and let us know what you think in the comment section below. Public Relations and Managing Reputation Short-term pain for long-term gain The idea that public relations is dead is fundamentally absurd, but it makes for a catchy headline. And some circling vultures...

Blast from the Past - Client Close-Up: Plaza Phoenix (Cheras Sentral)

Image
When we took on Plaza Phoenix (now known as Cheras Sentral) as a client, we were challenged to step outside our comfort zone. As opposed to just announcing the rebrand and redevelopment to the community, we were with a few other PR issues to restart the project. But, the hurdle did not end there. What should we do when the developer was unable to bring a group of over 125 strata title owners in order to move forward? Internal communication. Previously, we wrote about the importance of internal communication (if you haven’t read about it, you can read it here ) and it became a vital component in our communication strategy. Considering it involved over 125 parties, it’s fair to say it took some time. But most importantly, we became the trusted go-between for the parties and were able to put across non-emotional information to all who were involved, in a straight forward manner. Besides undertaking the responsibilities of meeting all the individual strata owners, we became ...

From the Net - Content Land

Image
In a field where we are often on our feet trying to come up with a fresh and engaging content, be it for a Press Release, Social Media posting, or others, we sometimes come to a halt simply because we can’t get passed what’s missing or what should be part of the content that makes it ‘click’ with readers. Thanks to PR Newswire , they’ve come up with an easy reference to ensure we’ve got most of our bases covered, if not all. Check out the info graphic they’ve come up with:

From the Net - Top 12 Movies / TV Shows for Every PR Pro’s Collection

Image
While the title may suggest that this post mainly for every PR professional, I think it will sit very well with those who want to venture into the field of Public Relations as well. When we came across the list on Adweek, we couldn’t help but discuss amongst ourselves some of the movies we’ve actually watched from the list. Surprisingly, most of us have watched at least half of them (and we are convinced to watch Sweet Smell of Success after reading about it – “Movie Night” at Orchan soon!). Now, grab that glass of wine (or beverage of your choice) and some popcorn. It’s time to unwind while picking up a thing or two about the field of Public Relations. Let us know if you agree or disagree with the way the industry of motion pictures depict / portray it. But first, here’s Adweek’s list and what they had to say: Since people have been making movies and reporting the news, there have been other people who have shilling for those movies to get in the news. What they have be...
