Blast from the Past – Client Close-Up: MASiF™ 2011

Image
The uniqueness of MASiF™ is its concept that transcends and synchronises three genres of art – fine arts, performing arts and fashion, fused together into a masterpiece on one stage over a period of three days. The three day event kicked off with “Let’s MASiF™,” followed by “One MASiF” on Day 2, and ending on the finale event “Massive MASiF™”. MASiF™ was initiated in 2010 as a platform for Malaysian creativity and innovation, designed to be an event where young talent could let loose and show their abilities to the community, and at the same time, give them a platform to propel themselves onto the world stage to demonstrate their artistic abilities and creativity to the world. One of the prestigious programmes in MASiF™ is the “Road to MASiF™”. The programme is designed to provide individuals with an opportunity to participate in a series of activities such as photography coopetition, a poster design competition and a bowling tournament – in a bid to unleash creativity and f...

The Long Play | Strategy & Message

The Long Play | Strategy & Message Curating content isn't just 'stuff' to tick the box and get you through the day; it needs to be viewed in parallel with the long term strategy of your organisation. Communications and messaging may appear short term, but to be effective, they are a long play. Is it For Real?

Image
Is it for Real? I Mean, Really Real? Fake news is not a new phenomena. And it ain’t going away any time soon! As a Communications Agency, we have a heightened awareness of the fake news phenomena, plus the implications of it. We’ve written about it, debated and spoken about it at events (and over far too many meals), and we’ve worked with clients to overcome the impacts of it on a variety of levels. But it persists, and with increasing social media usage, it snowballs. So, how do we all deal with it? A little more critical thinking helps. But that too needs to be upped a notch or so, as the fake news industry works fast on becoming smoother, more sophisticated, and more ‘credible’ to us consumers of information. With the current state of the world, and the confusion we all live in, it’s good to rethink just how critical we are of the information that passes through our screens, and of course, our newsprint too! The following article may be a couple of ye...

Humans of Orchan | From the ‘Remote” Desk of the ‘Halfie’

Image
From the ‘Remote” Desk of the ‘Halfie’ Hey there! I’m Kate, and I joined Orchan as a remote intern in July 2020. I am currently studying for my Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication (Public Relations and Event Management) at Taylor’s University, Malaysia. I am a student from Vientiane, Laos. I came to Malaysia for better education opportunities. My objective at Orchan is to learn more about Public Relations and gain more experience under professionals in the field. By the end of the internship, I hope to have gained more insight and experience working with other PR practitioners and clients. I chose to study Public Relations and Event Management because I desire to create memorable experiences for others and to elevate the quality of events in my home country, to help companies and individuals improve their image, and I also hope to get involved in more e vents and with PR to elevate my knowledge and expertise. I ha ve always found it fascinating that des...

Stay Calm and Pivot

Stay Calm & Pivot Yes, its the word of 2020 again. But it's relevant! All business success is a series of pivots - adjustments until success is earned, and continued. We have pivoted. How have you?

Pivoting Property Post-Covid | Upcoming Webinar

Image
Pivoting Property Post-Covid | Upcoming Webinar  In the commercial and retail property sphere, it doesn't matter whether you are an owner or a renter, Covid has clearly made an impact. The lockdowns significantly reduced customers into your store/s and into your mall/s, and the longer term impacts of this could leave you with increased vacant possession. Beyond understanding business continuity for the brands themselves, how do the properties bounce back in times of both uncertainty and changing SOP's? Orchan's Directors, Farrell and Craig, together with partner organisation Beyond Square Feet Sdn Bhd, are participating in a mini-conference / webinar next week to discuss issues of Pivoting Property - how to make the best out of your commercial and/or retail spaces post-Covid. Exploring a range of contemporary international approaches, plus understanding what's happening on-the-ground here in Malaysia, this webinar will act as a focal point for those i...

Humans of Orchan | Hannah

Image
Humans of Orchan | Hannah Once upon a time…  No. Wait. This isn’t a fairy tale. It's my life. Hi everyone, my name is Chung Ho Chung, but most people know me as Hannah, and I am from South Korea …hmm, this is so cliché and boring.  Mostly everyone struggles to start their first line of a story, even if it’s just a simple story about ourselves. Just like trying to do or start something for the first time, it is always hard and difficult. But, once you change your mind, close your eyes and just go across it, it is nothing after all. Now, let’s dive into my story, hope you won’t fall asleep.    “I want to be a singer because I am good at singing, an artist because I love drawing, an announcer because…”. Just like everyone, I had thousands of dreams and ambitions when I was young. I was also very confident about myself, thinking that I can make anything out.  However, as I grew older, I begin to lose myself, not knowing what...

Speaking! A Gig I Also Enjoy (Craig J Selby)

Image
Entrepreneur and influencer Naomi Simson opined a piece on this very platform – on a topic close to my professional heart – “speaking”. The piece is entitled “Speaking: It’s a Gig I Enjoy” ( https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/speaking-its-gig-i-enjoy-naomi-simson ). I also enjoy! There was an instant resonance with my own career and personal interests. Having been an active educator and speaker since late teens (I started damn early, at 18, as a University Tutor), primary school actually (public speaking competitions), I was drawn to her article, and thought it valid to put my own spin on why I am still active, and increasingly so, in the speaking circuit. I have spoken in groups of less than five right through to gatherings of over 1000 people at a time. The scariest is speaking in a room of less than ten people. But that too, becomes the most invigorating. Throughout my career I have tutored, lectured, presented to, and spoken at a huge range of people in a wider range of ...

Learning & Innovation

Nothing happens in a vacuum - for individuals, teams, brands, or organisations.  As we seek to learn, we seek to innovate and improve. As we seek to innovate and find new approaches to existing and emerging problems, we learn.
