Humans of Orchan | Hannah
Once
upon a time…
No.
Wait.
This isn’t a fairy tale.
It's my life.
Hi everyone, my name is
Chung Ho Chung, but most people know me as Hannah, and I am from South
Korea …hmm, this is so cliché and boring.
Mostly everyone struggles to start
their first line of a story, even if it’s just a simple story about ourselves.
Just like trying to do or start something for the first time, it is always hard
and difficult. But, once you change your mind, close your eyes and just go
across it, it is nothing after all. Now, let’s dive into my story, hope you
won’t fall asleep.
“I
want to be a singer because I am good at singing, an artist because I love
drawing, an announcer because…”. Just like everyone, I had thousands of dreams
and ambitions when I was young. I was also very confident about myself,
thinking that I can make anything out.
However, as I grew older, I begin to lose
myself, not knowing what I like or want to be. My personality also changed into
an anxious and a restrained introvert who gets uncomfortable around people and think
unnecessarily long to speak or start something.
These restricted me to
self-develop and trampled my self-esteem.
I started to think that I am not capable
to do anything.
So, I hid my opinions and feelings and avoided to interact with
others.
One
day, I suddenly thought if I continue to have this kind of mindset, I would be
no one.
So, I decided to take a break for a journey to find myself again.
Of
course, it wasn’t easy to start, but I just close my eyes and get off the mark.
The first thing I did was to go back to Korea (I lived in Malaysia about for 18
years). During this time, I met lots of people, learned swimming again, got my
first job as a tutor in a tuition centre, and explored hot spots in Korea.
After about a year in Korea, I went to Ipoh (Malaysia) with two of my
Malaysian friends. We went to a mural art’s lane and did some café hunting. After
that, I went to Singapore with my best friend, travelling around Sentosa island
and took a monorail to visit random places.
This
worthwhile journey allowed me to discover my traits and fight my fears of
interacting with others.
After this travel, I decided to pursue a communication-related
course at Taylor’s University. During the 4 years at Taylor’s University, I learned
to speak up my opinions to others and present in front of many people.
My
journey to find and build myself will continue and go on infinitely, just that
it has different stages.
Thus, I am excited to know how much more I will and can
develop from the next journey at Orchan during my internship.
Thank
you for reading until the end.
