(Commentary by Aidi Shukor) Our use of social media today is becoming increasingly crucial as more and more individuals want to quickly get their messages out to the public. From the average Joe to the President of the United States, all of them interact increasingly with their followers and stakeholders using social media platforms. But, what happens when social media is collectively used to pour hate onto a specific person, an organisation, or even a whole country? The result – a parade of embarrassment and idiocy. Is Our Organisational Culture Healthy or….? | Commentary by Christeen Akkarawatte When I was an intern here at Orchan, the entire team would gather together to brainstorm on how we could implement an effective campaign strategy. It didn’t matter whether I was an intern, or if it was my last day; what did matter is that all our voices were heard. There is this safe space where we can learn from each other and come up with some great ideas, together. A positive organisation culture would have transparency, where feedback is a norm and growing together is important. What you would not need is a lot of office politics and unmotivated employees. But then, unmotivated employees would also be a sign of a negative organisational culture. Organisational culture is fundamental to an organisation. You give your employees the freedom to innovate and pitch in their ideas - where there is a nice flow of ideas and everyone’s involved. Forming relationships like this would reflect beautifully ...

I have a big belly, and I like it to be full, especially with delicacies from some of the latest restaurants to don our landscape with their offerings. But, the challenge is not in writing a fair, balanced review for both restaurant and cuisine, but it is discerning the right words to use to paint a picture of deliciousness – before our readers get the chance to decide whether we know our stuff or not. My Editor @TheYumList (shout out to Monica) recently shared this tongue-in-cheek article with the team – food words banned from a leading Australian food review. Perhaps she was hinting at something for us all, or perhaps just sharing what is really a good article about the state of language use?
