Blast From the Past | The Traveling Trainers

Blast From the Past | The Traveling Trainers Overseas traveling. It’s a luxury these days, almost impossible.   Traveling regionally for clients and training is not new to Orchan’s Directors Craig and Farrell. In fact, it’s a nice perk of the job, as they both find ways to work and play tourist at each destination. Three years back, they were in Singapore for training sessions that spanned two days on “Crisis Communications” for Lighthouse Media, a business publishing growth company. The While Craig did most of the talking, Farrell moderated the session and kept the conversations going by engaging and asking the audience questions – the typical ‘Devil’s Advocate’ role which he performs well. A unique fact on the two days of training; it was an all-female group from some of Singapore's leading Government organisations and most unique businesses.   “I always enjoy traveling to conduct training. Pre-Covid, we would travel to Indonesia and Singapore for training opportunities. It'...

BFTP | Peter Cetera in Kuala Lumpur !

Image
Has it Been Four (4) Years Already? Woa, it’s been four (4) years already since the incredible Peter Cetera announced “An Evening with Peter Cetera” – live right here in Kuala Lumpur. Cetera’s team partnered with Orchan to drive some media hype for the “you’re the inspiration” singer – including concert publicity, some exclusives with the crooner, and of course, media (and our) enjoyment of the concert.   Timed to be just before his birthday in September (2017), this was to be Peter’s last concert in Malaysia, as he quietly retired in 2019 (well, that’s what the Wiki update tells us), so we’re glad to have been involved in his last concert in Malaysia. Two previous concerts in 2009 were cancelled, so it was certainly a rarity for him to perform here.   Direct from the press advisory issued:   “… is proud to announce that Peter Cetera, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter, and voice behind the group, Chicago, will ...

Modern Workplace Learning | Building a Culture for Personal & Professional Growth Commentary by Craig J Selby Regardless of where you are in your life, what industry you are in, or how accomplished you may have become, one thing is for certain – our motivation at/to work is affected by the opportunities surrounding us, and the people who put them forward. Something that I have always been very passionate about throughout my career has been constant opportunities for development. These do not always have to be career-related, but can include things for personal enjoyment and self-growth. I once did a Diploma in Wine – yes, because I loved wine, but it also gave me additional talking points during meetings. Being well-rounded is important in any career – both for the workplace and for one’s psyche. Creating an organisational culture where learning is embedded and encouraged is of paramount importance. But it has to be more than this; we need to feed the internal desire t...

BFTP | Can You Risk Not Knowing About Risk?

Can You Risk Not Knowing About Risk? Walking outside alone in the night playing Pokemon Go; having a round of Monopoly with your friends; trying the spiciest Korean instant noodles; all three might seem unrelated at first sight, but share a common trait amongst each activity – each entails a certain degree of risk.  Staying out alone makes you an easy target for those with criminal intentions; board game politics has the potential to create petty arguments between the best of buddies; the intensity of spiciness could give you severe bowel issues. What differs is the severity of risk involved in each situation, ranging from life-threatening to temporary tussles. Similarly, change management projects incur unavoidable risks as well, since change involves (but is not limited to) financial, social, logistical, and managerial aspects of an organisation. Organisational leaders should be well-equipped with skills in identifying and managing these risks, as th...
