During the virus prevention lockdown, Orchan ran a targeted professional Workshop for ACCA membership to attend. As part of their Professional Development Programme for their members, ACCA run a variety of workshops on topics related to core ACCA values, along with workshops on topics of interest relevant to the industry.

Orchan Director, Dr Craig J Selby, facilitated three ACCA sessions. The topics of the two programmes held before lockdown were on ‘Crisis Management’ and ‘Ethics and Social Media’. During the session on ‘Crisis Management’, Craig spoke of the steps through the process of how a crisis arises in the media, followed by the types of proactive planning and preparation a company can do to protect their brand. For the ‘Ethics and Social Media’ session, Craig spoke about understanding how an organisation has a guiding role in helping their team members to become respectful and ethical social media users. Given that there are so many cases where employees have made negative or controversial statements on social media, and subsequently the general public has put pressure on their employers; it becomes a win-win for everyone for employers to help their team be responsible netizens.

The most recent session as a live webinar was held during lockdown, the topic being ‘Stakeholder Outreach During Covid’. During the ‘Stakeholder Outreach During Covid’ Webinar, – how do we as professionals, as businesses, and as brands use social media positively to keep our stakeholders (staff, clients, others) informed, updated, and positive, during the lockdown period? How do we best use social media tools to ensure Business Continuity happens, and to provide a sense of strength to the stakeholders who rely upon us.

At the start of the webinar, he mentioned how all businesses and people have different set of circumstances during Covid and how there are different opportunities to be found. Other subjects he mentioned were on how the Crisis is not the main problem and the main problem is rather how businesses can continue in a crisis, how important stakeholder outreach is, how to move forward from the “C” word, industry observations on growth in online media and decline in offline media, strategies on brand communication, emerging trends during lockdown, how different brands have missed the mark on social media, the levels of social media intimacy, and best practice tips on communication.

When asked why Orchan took on ACCA as a client, Dr Craig J Selby replied with, “ACCA is a leading global professional body, with reach in many countries and markets. Their reputation as an organisation is strong; they do fantastic work for their industry. Plus, I love speaking - so it’s a great opportunity.”
